History of the Club

The Caloosa Dive Club was started in 1970 by a small group of locals that enjoyed diving and spearfishing. At that time, many members owned their own boats and would meet on weekends and raft their boats together and go diving. In those days, the club was small and meetings were held in smaller venues.

Club News

First of all, we hope everyone is getting back to something that resembles normal after hurricane Ian disrupted our lives – some more than others.  We canceled October Dive Club activities to give people time to recover.  I know there was some confusion due to some automatic reminders sent out, but Rich had no internet and couldn’t intercept those.  Here is the remainder of the year Dive Club activities.

There will be no Photo Committee Planning meeting before the November planning meetings.  Sandy and Carmela have agreed to co-chair the committee again this year, unless, of course, someone would like to volunteer.  If you would like to be on the Committee this year, please text me or call Sandy so we know to invite you when we eventually have a meeting.  We have figured out the dates to put on the calendar and will meet at a later date.

The first two meetings in November, the 1st and 8th, will be planning meetings at Scotty’s Bierwerks.  November 1 is Dive Planning, November 8 is Event Planning, normal time of 6:30 social, 7:00 meeting.  At both of these meetings, we will have another round of Cornhole.  If you can’t make it to throw, appoint a substitute to throw for you.  Otherwise, you will be disqualified.  Due to popular demand, the distance to throw will be reduced from 28 feet to 20 feet for the rest of the competition.

We will be combining the Banquet and Xmas Party to occur on December 6, starting at 6:00.  This will be a free event open to Members and their invited guests. Anyone who already paid for the Banquet will get a refund. Come to one of the first two meetings in November to receive your refund.  If you don’t pick it up by then, Carmela will mail you a check. The Club will provide Turkey & ham prepared ahead of time, along with rolls, cranberry sauce, stuffing and condiments to make sandwiches. Members are asked to bring appetizers, holiday hors d’oeuvres, or desserts.  Please sign up on-line so we know how many to cook for.  At this event, we will have a condensed photo contest results & prize presentation, the finals of the cornhole contest, President awards, New member initiation and holiday fun to be determined.

Those who paid for the canceled Shark’s Tooth Dives will also be getting a refund in the first two meetings of November.

Just a reminder that dues are due.

The Boat Show that was supposed to occur in November has been moved out to January.  We will be participating, but details at a later date.

Recent Articles on the Club

There have been two separate articles in the local papers to acknowledge the Clubs 50th Anniversary. Follow the links below to read the stories.

The Club Today

Today, we have evolved into a club of over 100 members. We are proud to boast that our members range in age from 8 to 80. Our non-diving members enjoy thge friendships that have been forged through the club. We have new divers and those holding advanced certifications with over 1000 logged dives.

Dive trips are scheduled throughout the year, within the glorious warm waters of Florida and surrounding areas. We stay busy with organized trips to aquariums, canoe trips, dinners and guest speakers. Members have offered dive trips to exotic locales such as the Cayman Islands, Mexico, and Bonaire.

We have our Annual Awards Banquet in October each year, where members are honored for their underwater photography as well as spearfishing talents.

50th Anniversary Party

The Caloosa Dive Club held it's 50th Anniversary Reunion Party Saturday, February 23rd at Scotty's Bierwerks in Cape Coral. It was a great opportunity for over 120 past and present members to get together and reminisce about the great dives and times the group has had over the years. Thanks to everybody involved in bringing this event together! You can check out the photos from the event.

Not a member yet?

The Caloosa Dive Club always welcome new members! Our club is a social club that also dives, so whether you are an active diver or not there is an activity for you to enjoy.
