History of the Club

The Caloosa Dive Club was started in 1970 by a small group of locals that enjoyed diving and spearfishing. At that time, many members owned their own boats and would meet on weekends and raft their boats together and go diving. In those days, the club was small and meetings were held in smaller venues.

The Club Today

Today, we have evolved into a club of over 100 members. We are proud to boast that our members range in age from 8 to 80. Our non-diving members enjoy thge friendships that have been forged through the club. We have new divers and those holding advanced certifications with over 1000 logged dives.

Dive trips are scheduled throughout the year, within the glorious warm waters of Florida and surrounding areas. We stay busy with organized trips to aquariums, canoe trips, dinners and guest speakers. Members have offered dive trips to exotic locales such as the Cayman Islands, Mexico, and Bonaire.

We have our Annual Awards Banquet in October each year, where members are honored for their underwater photography as well as spearfishing talents.

50th Anniversary Party

The Caloosa Dive Club held it's 50th Anniversary Reunion Party Saturday, February 23rd at Scotty's Bierwerks in Cape Coral. It was a great opportunity for over 120 past and present members to get together and reminisce about the great dives and times the group has had over the years. Thanks to everybody involved in bringing this event together! You can check out the photos from the event.

Robert N. Macomber is an award-winning author, internationally recognized lecturer, history enthusiast, and avid researcher.
He is best known for his Honor Series novels, his storytelling style as a speaker, and many Reader Rendezvous around the world.

Mr. Macomber is one of the Clubs most popular speakers. Hopefully we can see him again soon.

This message regarding His scheduled 16th Annual Pine Island Reader Rendezvous was sent to us:

To The Caloosa Dive Club:

Please spread this disappointing news: Robert N. Macomber's 16th Annual Pine Island Reader Rendezvous at Woody's Waterside is cancelled for Saturday, November 14, 2020.

We learned two weeks ago that the restaurant's ownership has changed hands. We learned a week ago that the new owners have closed the St. James City Woody's for extensive renovations. We were led to believe by them that we'd have a new date by now, but don't.

We're still waiting to hear if the new owners of Woody's Waterside [the Phelan Family Brands, e.g. Pinchers, etc] will want to reschedule this huge event. So far they've told us that they aren't sure they will have all up and running before Dec. 20th, but that they really aren't interested in considering a reschedule for this traditional event unless it can happen BEFORE Dec. 20, 2020 (which makes no sense) or AFTER April 24, 2021.

Robert isn't interested in doing the Book Bash after April 24th (with a Spring 2021 reschedule date in mind), and it's ridiculous to plan an event for before Dec. 20th if they won't guarantee that they'll have the restaurant re-opened by then. Thus, Robert & I have started to look for another venue. We will do our best to find one that has access for sailboats or dinghies, has lots of parking so that folks who come by boat or by vehicle will be accommodated, and will bring in the great music our party goers have learned to expect.

We will share more details as soon as we have something concrete. This has come as a most unwelcome surprise and is a major disappointment to us, but it's been out of our control.

If you can include the event cancellation news in your e-news to all club members, we'd appreciate it greatly.

Apologies for all inconveniences to everyone,

Nancy Glickman
